Chessi O'Dowd · The Pines

Jack Blackman · Jack Blackman and Chessi O'Dowd - Pensacola
Picture
‘Pensacola’ is a brand new collaboration between two of the most exciting young talents on the UK roots music scene The song, a Joan Osborne track from her 1995 album ‘Relish’, is reimagined into an intoxicating duet by Chessi O’Dowd and Jack Blackman.

The inspiration for the collaboration came on the road. “One day I was driving home, having ‘a day’ from the corona coaster and pandemic blues, when ‘Pensacola’ came on and something just clicked back into place. I decided there and then, ‘I want to do this!’ And thought who better to get involved than Jack Blackman.”

Chessi continues, “Due to the fact the Jack seems to be able to play every musical instrument on the planet, he created an amazing track and due to restrictions, recorded it all from his own home. We then laid down vocals (also from home) and sent the song to be mixed by producer/musician Joe Collier and we’re really stoked with the final outcome.”

Chessi has performed her songs all across the UK and as far away as Western Australia.  She is currently working on an EP with former Ocean Colour Scene bassist Dan Sealey. The music video was shot during a relaxing of coronavirus restrictions and, having been a professional videographer and editor for ten years, falls into the realm of Chessi’s expertise. “But I have to admit, editing yourself – it’s an odd experience!”. ‘

Pensacola’ is available on all digital platforms from May 14th.

Snowflake

Snowflake Review (see full here)

"A defiant answer (and melodic & catchy defiance is a key Chessi hallmark) to this cynical & bitter defilement of the word, "Snowflake" is ideal for these days when caring for each other & encouraging our friends to hope are so key."

"
This is one of the best singles I've heard so far in 2020 (and the bar is already pretty high) and it is perhaps a good idea that we hear it first isolated from its companions from the EP. As a showcase for the latter it serves exceedingly well. It is also the first time I've written about Chessi in "Hot Music Live" and although it wasn't either of the pieces I was originally intending, "Snowflake' is so good that I can go to bed tonight a great deal less frustrated" - Hot Music Live (2020)

Forget It All.

I wrote this song in 2018/2019. The lyrics originally formed in Australia whilst facing the prospect of coming back home to the UK. The song is topical and reflects on some the elements of what's happening in today's UK society.

This song also features Dan Sealey (Merrymaker/Ocean Colour Scene) on guitar and Adam Barry (Merrymaker/Misers) on the keys.

Warning: Explicit Lyrics and features the current topical 'B' Word.
